Back in the colonial time of Nueva España, when the Spaniards physically ruled over the Amerindians but struggled to have mental domain over them, one day the Virgen of Guadalupe appeared in the hill of Tepeyac to deliver a message to a native. Guadalupe, speaking Nahuatl (Aztec language) asked the native to build a church on top of the hill. The native convinced a Spaniard archbishop to build the church and from then on Virgin of Guadalupe is considered to be the mother of all Catholic Amerindians.
