Alix Hallman Travis, “View over the Binnekill”, Oil on canvas, 24×48 in., 2015, $1,750. One day I moved to a small park with a bench to eat an ice cream cone. I was nearly finished when I looked up and right in front of me was the back of an old multistoried building in the middle of a row of similar buildings but this one had never had an additional coat of paint and spots of the building with its stairs and hanging balconies was catching a bright sunlight filtered through the trees hanging over the small stream or binnekil, running beside itl. I made a quick sketch on my paper napkin and began painting the next day.
I apply my paint with a palette knife and the architectural structure fitted exactly the size of my flat shaped knives. The piece was a joy to paint!
